Meta users just can’t keep up with artificial intelligence and its wild, wild shenanigans. Earlier this month, the company introduced an ensemble of AI chatbots bearing the exact likenesses of celebrities. As for CEO Mark Zuckerberg, he had his hands tied being interviewed in the metaverse via a photorealistic double. Welcome to the 21st century, everyone.
Among the dozens of new familiar faces users can converse with on WhatsApp, Messenger, and Instagram is “Kendall Jenner,” or to be specific, ‘Billie’, an identical Jenner lookalike who even acts and speaks like the socialite.
Billie has her own distinct personality, however. She’s
engineered to respond like a “No-BS, ride-or-die” big sister, while her real-life counterpart is the fifth of six siblings in the Kardashian-Jenner clan.
“Chatting with me is like having an older sister you can talk to, but who can’t steal your clothes,” she proclaims on her Instagram account, which has since amassed over 103,000 followers. Billie’s Instagram bio is appended with an ‘AI character’ label that expands to read the message,“AI character profiles are managed by Meta.”

“I am here to chat whenever you want,” she animatedly announces in a post. “Message me for any advice. I am here to talk.”
Billie is just one of 28 AI celebrity twins Meta has unleashed into the world. Other characters appear to don the skin suits of celebrities like Paris Hilton, Snoop Dogg, Mr Beast, Tom Brady, Naomi Osaka, and Charli D’Amelio. Insider reports that each star was paid between US$1 million and US$5 million to give Meta digital-likeness rights.
Like Billie, each chatbot has their own name and character. The character inheriting Paris Hilton’s looks, for example, is named ‘Amber’, and she’s a “detective partner for solving whodunnits.” Brady’s ‘Bru’ is a “wisecracking sports debater who pulls no punches,” Osaka’s ‘Tamika’ is an “anime-obsessed Sailor Senshi in training,” and Mr Beast’s ‘Zach’ plays a “big brother who will roast you… because he cares.”

The hyperrealism has left internet users on edge. “Who else is scared?” asks one TikTok user. “This is actually a Black Mirror plot,” comments another.
Viewers can’t help but draw comparisons between the deployment of Billie’s army and Black Mirror’s Joan is Awful episode, in which a woman (played by Annie Murphy) learns that her entire life has been turned into a drama series starring Salma Hayek, who turns out to be not Salma Hayek.
