Oris has recently revealed a noteworthy collaboration with Bracenet, a German social enterprise, resulting in the creation of two Aquis Date watches featuring upcycled dials fashioned from “ghost nets” and retired fishing nets.

The founders of Bracenet, Benjamin Wenke and Madeleine von Hohenthal, initiated their journey in 2015 by transforming ghost nets into bracelets. Over the years, their efforts have expanded, and their latest endeavor breathes new life into discarded fishing nets.

The discarded nets are melted, cooled, and hardened to form a thin sheet of material. Subsequently, this sheet is cut, planed, and sanded to craft the unique dials that grace these timepieces.

Every dial has distinct traits, and your batch’s plastic blend will determine the unique combination of blues and greens that each piece will display.

Oris houses these distinctive dials within the Aquis Date stainless steel case, available in 43.5mm and 36.5mm. These watches offer an impressive water resistance of 984 feet, accompanied by stainless steel bracelets, a display caseback, and a unidirectional bezel.

Powering these watches is the reliable Oris 733 movement, rooted in the Sellita SW200-1. This movement offers central hours, minutes, and seconds, supplemented by a date window at the 6:00 position, and provides a respectable 38-hour power reserve.

The price point for these remarkable timepieces is set at US$2,600 for either size. Both are now available on Oris’ website.

This collaboration is not just visually stunning but also serves a significant purpose in raising awareness about the problem of “ghost nets” and promoting sustainability.
