Marks & Spencer Ad Banned By ASA Over ‘Unhealthily Thin’ Model Depiction

by rrollins, July 24, 2025

Marks & Spencer has pulled a mobile app advertisement after the UK’s Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) ruled it featured an “unhealthily thin” model. The ad showed a woman in slim-fit trousers and a white top, with styling and camera angles that exaggerated her slender frame. ASA deemed the image “irresponsible,” citing concerns over unrealistic beauty standards. M&S apologized and removed the image, reaffirming its commitment to inclusive sizing and responsible advertising. While complaints were filed against other ads, only one was banned. The ruling adds to growing scrutiny of fashion marketing amid fears of a return to ultra-thin body ideals
