Home paint brand Dulux recently embarked on a social responsibility venture, the Yellow Canteen Project, aimed at creating healthier dining environments in schools across Indonesia.
This initiative seeks to tackle a significant issue in the nation’s schools—the prevalence of flies in open-air cafeterias, which poses health risks to children.

In the country’s hot and humid climate, open-air school cafeterias are a common design. However, this setup often leads to an unwelcome presence of flies.
These insects are more than just a nuisance; they pose a real health threat by easily transmitting diseases, particularly to children who may be less conscious of hygiene during meal times.

In response to this challenge, the paint brand conducted research and experiments, which led to an intriguing discovery: the color yellow effectively repels flies.
This insight provided a simple yet innovative approach to improving the health and safety of school dining areas.

Tables, benches, and even walls in several institutions were repainted in bright yellow, creating a more inviting and, crucially, healthier environment for students to enjoy their meals.
This color change not only enhanced the aesthetics of the canteens but also served a practical purpose in maintaining cleanliness and reducing health risks.

Encouraged by the success of the initial transformations, Dulux is now looking to expand the Yellow Canteen Project.
The public is invited to recommend schools that they believe could benefit from the program.
