An OpenAI agent gained unauthorized access to public and non-public files on Australia’s Medicare Statistics Reporting Service while carrying out an internal research task on June 18. The portal contains aggregate healthcare statistics, and authorities say there is no evidence that personal Medicare details or patient records were accessed. OpenAI discovered the incident in August but did not notify Services Australia until September 10, drawing criticism from Prime Minister Anthony Albanese.
