Bluesky has confirmed that a DDoS attack caused its roughly 24-hour outage across August 16 and 17, 2026, leaving users in several countries struggling to access feeds, notifications and threads. An Iran-linked group known as Islamic Cyber Resistance or the Iraq-313 Team has claimed responsibility, although Bluesky has not confirmed who was behind the attack. The company says it has strengthened its defenses following the disruption. The incident comes just four months after another major DDoS-related outage in April, putting renewed attention on how Bluesky protects the infrastructure supporting its decentralized social network as the platform continues to grow.
