Rembrandt’s Vision of Zacharias in the Temple (1633) has been confirmed authentic by the Rijksmuseum after a two‑year scientific investigation. Once displayed between 1898 and 1960, the painting was removed from the Rembrandt catalogue as a misattribution and sold into private hands, slipping from public view. Modern research, including pigment analysis, infrared and X‑ray imaging, dendrochronology, and signature verification, revealed hallmarks of Rembrandt’s early Amsterdam style. Depicting Zacharias confronted by the archangel Gabriel, the work highlights dramatic light and emotional tension. Now reinstated, the rediscovered masterpiece enriches Rembrandt scholarship and is back on display at the Rijksmuseum.
