Matthew McConaughey has trademarked his iconic “alright, alright, alright” catchphrase — including as a sound mark — to stop AI tools from cloning his voice and style without permission. Working with Yorn Levine, he secured eight USPTO trademarks covering the phrase and short audio‑video “portraits” that capture elements of his on‑screen identity. The move comes amid rising deepfakes and AI‑generated celebrity impersonations used for misleading or commercial content. Although McConaughey invests in AI company ElevenLabs, he wants consent and attribution to be standard. His strategy reflects a broader shift toward treating identity as intellectual property in the AI era.
