The Kennedy Center is preparing a $1 million lawsuit against jazz musician Chuck Redd after he canceled his annual Christmas Eve Jazz Jam in protest of Donald Trump’s name being added to the building. Redd, who has led the tradition since 2006, said the renaming left him saddened and unwilling to continue. Kennedy Center president Richard Grenell condemned the move as a political stunt, while Democratic lawmakers filed legal challenges arguing the 1964 law prohibits adding names without Congress. The fallout has widened, with Hamilton, Issa Rae, Low Cut Connie, Louise Penny, and Rhiannon Giddens among artists cutting ties.
