Sometimes a good laugh can bring people together faster than any heartwarming message, and that’s precisely what Meat & Livestock Australia (MLA)’s 2024 summer lamb advertisement is doing—uniting generations with humor, satire, and a mouthwatering dose of lamb.
Launched during news broadcasts on Channel 7 and 9 in the country, the annual Share the Lamb commercial has quickly become a sensation around the globe. It’s a humorous take on the generation gap, stereotypically portraying each age group at its “worst” until a good barbecue swoops in to save the day.
A feast for the senses, the spot pictures a world where Boomers, Gen X, Millennials, and Gen Z are divided by an unbridgeable gap. But then, the irresistible aroma of a lamb BBQ wafts in, breaking those barriers and enticing everyone to gather around the grill.
Summer in Australia is when friends and family come together over delicious meals and barbecues. At its core, this campaign aims to remind locals that, especially during the summer season, there’s more that unites them than divides them.
This film is timed to make the most of this season, aiming to generate buzz for lamb as a choice protein, whether consumers are at the grocery store or dining out.
It’s only January, and this commercial has already been deemed the “ad of the year” by many viewers worldwide. We’d like to leave this title open until at least a few months from now, but you could say that it does deserve a Cannes Lamb.
If you haven’t seen it already, be prepared to fire up the laughs.
