Yelp, having overseen all sorts of rental listings, has put together a set of home design predictions for 2024.

This year, the platform dissected millions of reviews to pinpoint the most buzzworthy words and phrases in home improvement. For a dash of expertise, it enlisted the insights of trend expert Tara Lewis and acclaimed interior designer Dani Dazey, known for her work on the reality television series Trixie Motel.

These insights are all about transforming your living space with small yet impactful projects. Here’s a sneak peek into what’s going to be the rage in home décor in the coming year.

Following the Barbiecore craze, vibrant colors are all the rage, with Yelp data showing a surge in interest for pink and red paints. This trend leans towards bold, floral-inspired designs, with a 54% increase in searches for floral paint. Dani Dazey suggests starting with a balanced color story and testing swatches to avoid overwhelming your space.

“There’s no denying that color evokes happy feelings, but sometimes people can be unsure about how to bring more of it into their space. Start off by establishing a color story: one to two primary colors, and maybe one to two secondary pops,” says Dazey. “When painting, one huge tip is to test swatches. What you see on a small paint card can feel much brighter on a big wall.”

Modern Shelving

Modernizing kitchens and other spaces with open, decorative shelving is gaining traction. Searches for kitchen shelving have jumped by 15%. Dazey notes that open shelves “make a space feel larger… plus, it’s an opportunity to display all your favorite glassware and décor.”

“My suggestion to make it feel fresh is to go for a more decorative shelving versus a plain wood square. Think fun wavy trim, brass rails, and shelves that feel like art!”
