Mars is sharing the message of climate action in a fun-sized, snackable format. To do so, the confectionery giant is revisiting some of its classic commercials… and editing over them.
The campaign, called Healthy Planet Productions, brings a second lease of life to old advertisements from brands like M&M’s, Twix, and Bounty by voicing over them and outlining the conglomerate’s environmental goals in a lighthearted way.

Depending on where you are, you would be greeted by a different brand. In the US, get ready to revisit spots by M&M’s, Twix, and Ben’s Original (formerly Uncle Ben). The UK is set to see Bounty, M&M’s, and Twix, while Mexico will have a dose of M&M’s nostalgia.
Actors and characters in the films have had their mouths superimposed with animated versions to sync with their revamped dialogue about how to tread lighter on the planet.

Repurposing commercials might seem like a pure gimmick at first, but Mars explains that by crafting a campaign out of expired advertising efforts and using simple animation in place of “emission-intensive” techniques, the company has kept emissions low as it eliminated the need to travel and film something from scratch. In addition, it has also partnered with organizations and businesses committed to sustainability and that hold industry designations, such as Certified Green Energy Offices and Studios.

This move ties into Mars’ big-picture plan, the Mars Net Zero Roadmap, which has set targets like hitting net-zero emissions by 2050 and slashing carbon emissions in half by 2030.
