In a nostalgic nod to the 90s, Oakley is bringing back one of its most iconic designs, the MUZM Mars X-Metal Leather.
First introduced in 1998, this eyewear classic left an indelible mark on pop culture, and now, a quarter of a century later, it’s making a triumphant return.

Crafted with precision and innovation, this limited-edition release pays homage to the audacious spirit of the brand. When it was first launched, the original Mars frame was nothing short of a technological marvel.
To create this extraterrestrial X-Metal frame, it took a colossal six-ton generator with a staggering 425,000 watts of power to drive the five-axis machining that maintained a precision level down to .0005 inches.

Fast forward to the present, and Oakley has harnessed cutting-edge technology to bring back the Mars frame in the form of the MUZM X-Metal Leather.
This eyewear masterpiece is created using a direct metal laser sintering process, where high-powered lasers melt intricate X-Metal powder to form the frame.

The company’s team of engineers then meticulously hand-finish and hand-stitch suede leather to the frame’s chassis, creating a unique blend of craftsmanship and advanced technology.
One striking feature of the new Mars X-Metal Leather is its perfectly balanced circular shape, inspired by the planet itself.
Practicality meets style with the inclusion of Unobtainium ear socks and nose pads, ensuring a comfortable fit. The Prizm 24K lenses enhance colors and contrast, allowing wearers to see more detail in their surroundings.

“Bonding science and art around one concept was how we first landed on MARS. As the 90s ramped up, the piece defined a moment in culture, appearing on the silver screen to basketball players,” said Brian Takumi, Oakley VP, Brand Soul and Creative.
“Its futuristic design was ahead of its time, defying the era it’s brought into. With the imminent arrival of our 50th anniversary in 2025, bringing it back from our archives and our DNA, MARS is just one of the portals set to expanding the Oakleyverse.”
