You know it’s officially that time of the year when John Lewis releases its much-anticipated Christmas spot. This year, instead of cute animals, snowmen, and even aliens, the British department store is shining the spotlight on a plant that rarely has a place in homes.
Snapper, the Perfect Tree, created by advertising agency Saatchi & Saatchi, tells the endearing story of a young boy who nurtures a plant with the hope that it will grow into the perfect Christmas tree. However, his expectations are subverted when the plant transforms into a Venus flytrap with a mischievous personality.
The tale takes a charming twist as Snapper, the oversized Venus flytrap, is temporarily exiled from the living room due to its growth but is later welcomed back to celebrate Christmas with the family.
Andrea Bocelli lends his enchanting vocals to accompany the narrative, adding a touch of elegance to this unique festive tale.
What sets this commercial apart is its focus on the evolving nature of holiday traditions. The commercial captures the essence of family and the idiosyncratic customs that define each household during the festive season. It’s a reminder that the perfect Christmas isn’t about conforming to norms but about finding joy in togetherness with loved ones, regardless of the traditions.

The film’s bespoke song will be released as a single, with proceeds being directed towards charities, including Action for Children, spreading the spirit of giving and support during the holiday season.
