As the winter months approach, adventurers looking for gear that stands out in the dark may find an ally in fashion innovation brand Vollebak’s latest creation: the Solar Charged Hat. This innovative accessory can be instantly charged and illuminated by any light source, from an iPhone torch to sunlight, and emits a radiant glow in dark environments, reminiscent of kryptonite. Designed for functionality, it is equipped with a water and wind-resistant three-layered material, complete with a fleece lining and insulated for warmth in extreme cold.

The hat’s exterior, a typical green by day, transforms into a vivid, glowing green after being charged, offering visibility during nighttime escapades.

The membrane in the garment acts like a plant, absorbing sunlight to power its glow. The technology behind it is straightforward: the more intense and longer the exposure to light, the brighter and more enduring the glow. Ideal for nature trips where light pollution is minimal, the hat’s glow can persist for up to 12 hours, fading gradually into a “ghostly” glare.

Amusingly, the Solar Charged Hat’s responsiveness allows you to draw on it with a flashlight or any light source, making it a fun and interactive piece of outdoor gear, as well.

Beyond its practical, “kryptonite”-esque luminescence, the Solar Charged Hat, priced at US$395, boasts a durable build with Cordura-reinforced storm flaps for ear protection and multiple fastening options for a snug fit. It also includes an elasticated cord for an adjustable fit, ensuring it stays in place no matter the activity.

The hat literally caps Vollebak’s existing range of Solar Charged winter garments, including a jacket and puffer, that keep adventurers warm, visible, and prepared for the cold.
