Pawly, a Swiss startup, has literally opened the doors to keeping your tabby safe. Described as the “world’s smartest cat door,” the Pawly Door isn’t your average cat flap—it’s a high-tech solution designed to give humans peace of mind while their felines totter off into the unknown.
Pawrents know the hilarious yet unsettling situation of their little hunters offering them an unsolicited “gift” all too well. These presents are now turned away at the door with the help of artificial intelligence and chip recognition, which can distinguish between your cat, potential prey, and even random critters from the great outdoors.

Meanwhile, face recognition identifies its face and mouth region to ensure no lookalike kitties make their way inside.

Besides filtering unwanted guests, the Pawly Door lends concerned cat parents a helping paw in tracking down their mischievous felines if they decide to go on an adventure of their own and disappear for an extended period of time. The accompanying Pawly App detects missing pets; plus, it offers insights into your cat’s behavior and gives you full control over when your kitty can come and go.

The door is built to accommodate almost all domestic felines, with capacity for four-legged landlords weighing up to 15.5 pounds.

According to a press release from the Zurich, Switzerland-based company, demand for the inventive cat door has been so evident, preorders skyrocketed to over €100,000 (US$105,940) within the first five hours of its launch. It does seem cat owners worldwide are ready for a smarter solution to common feline escapades.
