Annie Leibovitz has filed a copyright lawsuit against Observer Media, accusing the publisher of using her Justin and Hailey Bieber photo without permission and leaving it online for years despite takedown requests. The 2019 Vogue portrait appeared in a 2020 Observer article and, according to the complaint, remained embedded on the site as of July 2026. Leibovitz’s licensing agency first contacted the outlet in May 2024, but received no response. The suit describes the infringement as “willful, intentional and malicious,” and seeks profits plus statutory damages of up to $150,000 per violation.
