Apple is undergoing a major AI leadership transition as longtime chief John Giannandrea prepares to retire in 2026. Giannandrea, who joined Apple from Google in 2018, has been central to shaping its machine learning and AI strategy. He will be succeeded by Amar Subramanya, a seasoned AI leader with experience at Google and Microsoft, who will report to Craig Federighi rather than CEO Tim Cook. Parts of Giannandrea’s organization will shift to Eddy Cue and Sabih Khan. The change comes amid delays to Apple Intelligence and Siri upgrades, as Apple faces mounting pressure to compete in the global AI race.
