A class-action lawsuit has been filed against Diageo, the parent company of Casamigos and Don Julio, alleging that the brands falsely market their tequilas as “100% agave” despite allegedly containing cane and other non-agave alcohols. The lawsuit claims that independent testing contradicts the labeling, misleading consumers into paying premium prices. Plaintiffs argue that major tequila producers have manipulated agave supply and pricing, harming small-scale farmers. Diageo denies the claims, calling them “meritless”. If proven, the case could lead to stricter industry regulations and greater transparency in tequila labeling.
