The U.S. State Department plans to acquire $400 million worth of armored Tesla vehicles over a five-year contract, detailed in its 2025 procurement forecast. Expected to be awarded by September 30, the contract is the largest item in the department’s forecast, last updated in December 2024 during Biden’s administration. However, the deal has sparked debate due to Tesla CEO Elon Musk’s dual role as a Trump administration official and head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), raising concerns about conflicts of interest and potential favoritism toward his companies.
