Navigating New York City’s transit system can be challenging for anyone, but for Deaf and hard-of-hearing commuters, it often comes with added obstacles. That’s about to change. The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA), along with New Jersey Transit and the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, has introduced on-demand American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation services across key transit hubs to make communication between Deaf riders and transit staff more accessible and seamless.
