The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has begun distributing $72 million in refunds to Fortnite players as part of a $245 million settlement with Epic Games. This action addresses allegations that Epic Games used deceptive design tactics, known as “dark patterns,” to trick players into making unwanted purchases. Over 629,000 players are set to receive an average refund of $114 via PayPal or checks. The FTC continues to accept claims until January 10, 2025. Players are advised to be cautious of potential scams during the refund process.
