McDonald’s is taking a big step into the future, and one foot in memory lane, with its latest venture, CosMc’s, a restaurant that’s a throwback to the space-themed 1980s.
The brainchild of McDonald’s CEO Christopher Kempczinski, CosMc’s pays tribute to the retired alien character ‘CosMc’, who graced McDonald’s commercials between 1986 and 1992. The concept promises a blast from the past with its space-based, retro-futuristic décor inspired by CosMc’s otherworldly adventures.
Although the full menu remains under wraps, a sneak peek—along with sightings of the restaurant’s cursive logo—has emerged thanks to Chicago-area real estate investor Iman Jalali.
Set against a blue building, the branding is imbued in a yellow tone that’s not quite warm as the classic Golden Arches. That’s compensated by a friendly, upward-sloping logomark that looks handwritten.

Jalali snapped pictures of a menu board outside an upcoming CosMc’s in Illinois, revealing a tantalizing array of offerings. Patrons can expect a variety of beverages including teas, lemonades, coffees, slushies, frappes, and unique ‘Galactic Boosts’—signature fruit drinks.
Highlighted items like the Turmeric Spiced Latte, Churro Frappe, and Sour Cherry Energy Burst promise to add a cosmic twist to familiar flavors. The food menu is equally intriguing, featuring items like the Spicy Queso Sandwich, Creamy Avocado Tomatillo Sandwich, Pretzel Bites, and Savory Hash Brown Bites. Fans of McDonald’s breakfast fare will be delighted to find all-day options like the classic Egg McMuffin and Sausage McMuffin with Egg.
Set to launch in Bolingbrook, Illinois, about 30 miles from Chicago, the first CosMc’s is poised to open its doors in early 2024. This new concept aims to tap into the growing trend of nostalgia-driven dining experiences, building on the success of adult Happy Meals and the recent revival of beloved McDonaldland characters like the Hamburglar and Grimace.
