Pokémon trading cards might have just met their match. Takashi Murakami, a trailblazer in the contemporary art world most known for his candy-hued graphics, is letting his flowers bloom in your pocket with a collectible trading card pack. This move aligns with the opening of the Kaikai Kiki Marketplace for NFTs, showcasing the Japanese artist’s enthusiasm for blending traditional art forms with modern digital trends.

The trading card array, titled 108FLOWERS, is a tangible extension of Murakami’s Murakami.Flowers non-fungible token series. Each blind pack contains a surprise assortment of five randomly selected cards.

Deviating from the pixel art style of the NFTs, these cards feature more “realistic” illustrations that have been newly created for the deck.

In a nod to those who have supported the Murakami.Flowers series, the artist is giving them first dibs on the cards through a presale on December 10. The general preorder for the wider public will follow shortly after, commencing on December 12, before sprouting for real in January 2024.
