Samsung is the latest tech giant to harvest the bounty of generative artificial intelligence, following in the footsteps of names like Microsoft, Google, and Adobe.
Announced on Wednesday at the Samsung AI Forum 2023, Samsung Gauss is a comprehensive suite of AI technologies that includes Samsung Gauss Language, Samsung Gauss Code, and Samsung Gauss Image, christened after the prodigious mathematician Carl Friedrich Gauss. According to the company, the model’s naming is a tribute to Gauss’s foundational work in normal distribution theory, which is crucial to the development of machine learning and AI.
Samsung Gauss is currently employed in-house to boost workplace productivity, but is poised to expand to the brand’s product range to enhance consumer experiences.
“The rapid progress of generative AI technology is a paradigm shift that is expected to reshape both daily life and work,” the South Korean behemoth outlines in a press release.
Samsung Gauss Language, for instance, is a generative language model that simplifies tasks such as email drafting and document summarization, and when integrated into Samsung devices, can offer more intuitive control features.
For the developers at Samsung, Gauss Code, coupled with the coding assistant code.i, streamlines software development by providing an interactive interface that assists with tasks like coding, describing code, and generating test cases.
On the creative front, Samsung Gauss Image is a generative image model that can effortlessly create and modify creative images, including style adjustments and adding elements, while enhancing low-resolution images into high-resolution ones.

Beyond these technological advancements, Samsung emphasizes a commitment to ethical AI usage. The AI Red Team, an initiative by Samsung, underscores this commitment, actively identifying and monitoring security and privacy issues throughout the entire AI process to adhere to AI ethics principles.
