Swedish clothing brand ASKET is taking steps to address modern consumption habits by introducing what it calls an ‘Impact Receipt,’ which will be issued alongside traditional monetary stubs.
This way, customers will be provided with a detailed breakdown of the environmental cost associated with each garment they purchase.

According to the brand, the Impact Receipt will shed light on critical factors such as CO2 emissions, water usage, and energy consumption related to the manufacturing of the clothing.
The initiative will take into account every aspect of garment creation—from the earliest stages of farming to yarn spinning, weaving, dyeing, construction, and the transportation phases involved.
Overall, ASKET hopes this will be the first step to transforming the way consumers view their clothing purchases, encouraging a shift from mere transactions to meaningful choices.

To further enhance transparency, the company will be making the eco-impact of each purchase available on each individual product page, as part of a broader transparency module.
This will be in addition to complete supply chain traceability and a detailed cost breakdown, helping to illustrate the resources required to produce each item.

“Because we’ve only ever been told the price consumers pay for a garment, the industry has created a disconnect between our shopping habits and its impact,” commented August Bard Bringéus, co-founder at ASKET.
“As a result, we’ve amassed an irrevocable environmental debt. And until we put a price on our planet’s resources and understand what our choices actually cost, we’ll never make concessions to the consumption we think we’re entitled to.”
