Rapper Kendrick Lamar and filmmaker Dave Free’s company, pgLang, have joined forces with technology company Light to introduce a unique cellphone designed to provide a less-distracting alternative to modern life.
First formed in 2020, the firm is described as a “multi-lingual, at-service company,” and this collaboration marks its venture into the world of gadgets.
Unlike traditional smartphones, this minimalist phone is intentionally stripped down, omitting features such as a web browser and color interface in order to promote a more focused and mindful approach to communication.
The exclusive release of this mobile device will be limited to just 250 units, retailing at US$250 each, only available on the brand’s official website.
According to the firm, the phone is built entirely from scratch, ensuring that no third-party apps are tracking user activity. It emphasizes that users are the customers, not the product.

One feature users can look forward to is the “language tool.” Users can simply ask the phone a question, give it a shake, and receive a response directly on the screen.
In addition, the Light Phone II will come equipped with essential functionalities such as a calendar, notes/voice memos, maps, podcasts, music, an alarm, a hotspot, and a calculator—ensuring it remains a practical device for everyday use.
