Instagram users, you know the experience. You’re looking up something that has piqued your interest, only to find related advertisements as soon as you fire up the social network. No, the app isn’t telepathic—it follows your activity all over the internet to share tailored content.

Even with Halloween creeping around the corner, for many, there are other things scarier than monsters and ghouls. Not being able to control your privacy is one of them. At long last, the Meta-owned social media app is giving users more agency over their data with the ability to turn off tracking.

Previously exclusive to Facebook, the Activity Off-Meta Technologies feature is now available to Instagram users. The tool enables users to review which businesses are sharing data with Facebook and Instagram, giving them the option to disconnect specific ones from their accounts.

The feature also allows users to wipe this data entirely to block off all tracking across websites and apps.

Users can locate the option by heading over to their Settings menu on Instagram and finding the Accounts Center. The same route and destination are accessible on Facebook and Messenger too.

Through the Accounts Center, users can also find the new Transfer Your Information feature that Meta has extended to Instagram. Here, you can easily transfer all your Instagram photos and videos to other services to, say, create and print albums using a third-party platform.
