Lyft has introduced ‘Women+ Connect’, an initiative to bolster safety and inclusiveness for riders and drivers who identify as women or nonbinary. This initiative creates a more secure and accommodating environment while respecting diverse gender identities.
With Women+ Connect, women and nonbinary drivers have the option to be more frequently matched with riders who share the same gender identity. It’s essential to note that this feature is entirely voluntary and preference-based. Drivers can choose to activate Women+ Connect but may still be paired with riders of different genders if suitable matches within their preferences are unavailable.

Initially, Women+ Connect will be accessible in specific cities, including Chicago, Phoenix, San Diego, San Francisco, and San Jose. Lyft has plans to expand this feature to additional cities in the future, with the primary goal of enhancing safety and encouraging the participation of women and nonbinary individuals as drivers.
During the development of Women+ Connect, Lyft collaborated with reputable organizations such as the Human Rights Campaign and the National Association of Women Law Enforcement Executives, drawing insights and guidance from their expertise.
Users can change their genders within the Lyft app, where it will display their preferred pronouns clearly. Access to Women+ Connect is determined based on the gender users specify within the Lyft app, with the flexibility to modify this information at any time.
